Job Title: Group Exercise Instructor (Water) Department: Wellness

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Wellness Director, the Group Exercise Instructor (Water) is responsible for conducting safe, effective, and enjoyable exercise classes by providing leadership, up-to-date quality instruction and high energy motivation. The Group Exercise Instructor will work with people of all ages, and lead water group fitness classes to motivate members to improve their overall health and wellbeing. As an instructor, you are passionate about health and wellness and enjoy empowering people to achieve their goals. You are energetic, self-motivated and a natural teacher dedicated to helping others. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Plans and instructs water fitness classes, following YMCA standards and guidelines.

· Sets up and takes down class equipment. Reports equipment problems.

· Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required. Maintain current certifications.

· Observes and discusses individual progress with participants. Develops rapport with members and responds to questions related to fitness.

· Ensures safe and effective workouts. Responds to, and reports, accidents and incidents.

· Discusses and promotes all YMCA programs. Motivates members to commit to long term participation.

· Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.

· Plans and implements a program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA.

· Coordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate.

· Any additional duties as assigned.

· Group Exercise Instructor will demonstrate excellence in ability and maintain a caring attitude at all times to provide quality programs and service while promoting the Bath Area Family YMCA mission.

· The popularity and size of the classes and number of persons who attain their individual goals will measure achievable results.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

· Must have basic knowledge of fitness or equivalent work/education experience;

· Have at minimum 25 hours of practical experience as a water fitness class instructor (preferred).

Education/Certification

· High school Diploma

· CPR and First Aid (must obtain within first 6 months of employment)

· Water Group Fitness Instruction Certification with an accredited national certification (ACA, Water in Motion, Zumba)

Skills:

· Ability to lead a water fitness class; ability to motivate and educate members in the field of physical fitness; *

· Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations; ability to set up, move, and store equipment.

· Ability to communicate to a diverse group of people.

· Interpersonal Skills

· Familiar with the culture and mission of the organization

· Excellent communication and organizational skills required.

· Friendly and polite.

· Ability to be gracious with all persons of various ages, cultures, and creeds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position is required to be performed on the YMCA premises. Regular interaction with members and staff. Supervision received from the Wellness Director. May also take direction from senior staff.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
